He studied at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory, then at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, from which he graduated in 2008 in the class of Vladimir Vaneyev. In 2009, he was a participant in the youth programme at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He worked at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, then at the Novosibirsk Opera. In 2013, he made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre, performing the role of Belcore at the premiere of 'L'elisir d'amore'.
Today, Roman Burdenko is a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre, performing most of the leading baritone roles in the repertoire of operas by Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, and Prokofiev. He is a laureate of several prestigious competitions, including the Plácido Domingo Operalia competition, the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona, and many others.
He performs at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Bavarian State Opera, the Komische Oper and Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Royal Danish Theatre, the Glyndebourne Festival, and in Salzburg.
For his role as Igor Svyatoslavich in 'Prince Igor', he was nominated for the Russian National Theatre Award 'Golden Mask' in 2010.
